The Emir Abdelkader in Damascus is best known for his humanism and tolerance (he protected Christians and Europeans in Damascus against attacks Druze and Muslim, 1860) and its contribution to the culture of the community and city. His palace in Damascus has been renovated with support from the European Union (EU) and was chosen as the locus of activity of the latter in the field of urban planning, a program supported by the EU and whose first Results are visible in the old city of Damascus as the Capital's oldest in the world.

A Djelfa, ville de 200.000 habitants de la région des hauts plateaux, à 300 kms au sud d’Alger, la société, traditionnellement semi-nomade et sédentarisée depuis peu , est encore très conservatrice et les vieilles mentalités n’ont pas beaucoup changé. La femme dans cette région semi-rurale est d’ordinaire« femme au foyer » et si elle est autorisée à travailler (par le père ou le mari) c’est souvent dans le petit commerce, dans le marché informel.
