The 16th Permanent Conference of the Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM), which annually gathers operators from the audiovisual and culture sectors of the Euro-Mediterranean region, will take place from 16 to 19 April in Cairo. [...] Emmanuel Hoog, President of COPEAM and CEO of Ina, will take the opportunity to propose the adoption of a platform of new projects that might be included in the cultural priority of the Union for the Mediterranean.
COPEAM, created in Cairo in 1996, is now the most representative professional structure of the Mediterranean media. It regroups over 130 professionals from 25 countries, including the major public broadcasters of the region, and the two major European and Arab Unions: EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and ASBU (Arab States Broadcasting Union).
Its ambition is to bring together all the media stakeholders – both public and private (television, radio, Internet, producers) but also cultural events and festivals.
The 2009 edition of COPEAM Conference is an opportunity to create a "link" between the audiovisual media sector and the key multilateral actors involved in the Euro-Mediterranean space.
Three topics will be presented: Developing a sustainable Mediterranean space- the Mediterranean Audiovisual: pluralities, convergences and objectives – COPEAM, a transversal actor for a multilateral approach.
Among the spakers or participants: Ahmed Aniis - President of ERTU (Egypt), Patrick de Carolis - President of France Télévisions (France), Fayçal Laraichi - CEO of SNRT (Morocco), Richard Weber - Deputy General Director AIDCO (European Commission), ....
The annual conference is, for professionals of the sector, a unique opportunity of exchange around concrete projects promoted by COPEAM, including: Med MeM, the Internet portal of the Mediterranean audiovisual heritage, Terramed, the multicultural and multilingual satellite channel/ showcase and Euro-Med News, the network of production, exchange and broadcast of Mediterranean information.
These three projects are designed to encourage cultural exchanges and multilateral cooperation. It is as much a challenge as a priority of the Union for the Mediterranean.
