TUNISIAONLINENEWS- The Tunis-based headquarters of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) played host on Monday to a news conference focusing on Results and prospects for the Euromed-News project for the production, exchange and broadcasting of audio-visual programs.
It aims at “informing the public of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, easing coverage and broadcasting of Euro-Mediterranean current news by radio- broadcasters of the South, stimulate dialogue and mutual understanding of populations of the two Mediterranean shores and promote cultural diversity and gender equality.
This project which is implemented in partnership with the European Union (EU),was launched in 2009 by a consortium made up of ASBU, the Permanent Conference of Mediterranean Audiovisual Operators (COPEAM), the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and a group of seven public radio broadcasters from the Mediterranean rim, namely France Televisions, leader of the project, EPTV (Algeria), JRTV (Jordan), ERTU (Egypt), in association with radio broadcasters ORTAS (Syria), SNRT (Morocco), and TéléLiban.
ASBU’s Director-General Slaheddine Maaoui praised the success of this project which helped, in one year, produce 300 current topics, some fifty current affairs magazines and ten documentaries, totaling 17 hours of joint production.
Mrs. Stephanie Carette, a representative of the European Delegation in Tunis, said that this project is “rich by the quality of its participants, innovating and ambitious”. She also stressed that this project is part of the regional communication and information program, coming under the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) which has benefited of 19 million Euros over 4 years, more than half of which were dedicated to the southern shore of the Mediterranean. An amount worth 2 million 100 thousand euros was dedicated to the Euromed-News project.
